We visited Morocco two years ago and learning from that trip have put an exciting 10 day holiday together that combines the best of experiencing the cultural aspects of Berber life in the High Atlas mountains along with the opportunity to climb mountains including Mt Toubkal which at 4167m is the highest mountain in North Africa.  This is not a “technical” trip for the hardened mountaineer but rather a trip for the keen hill walker.

The holiday includes accommodation in village rooms, local hotels and a Riad in Marrakesh, all food whilst on the trek and transport to and from the airport.

Rock climbing “taster” sessions and tuition on the gritstone of the Derbyshire Peak District offer a great way to try out the sport. The area has something for everyone from gentle easy angled climbs for the novice to steep and overhanging climbs for the expert.

Why not book an abseiling or rock climbing session for a birthday or special occasion?

We charge £90 for a half day or £160 for a full day, or £60 for an evening, for up to 4 people. We are happy to include children and young people in the group, but they must be accompanied by a responsible adult.  If you have a group of more than 4, ask us about special offers.

Climb Mulhacen

A hiking challenge to get to the top of Spain’s highest mountain.
This holiday is good for anyone with a sense of adventure, who would like to push their limits. Especially good if you like walking in the mountains.

The programme is very flexible and we always adapt what we do to suite the choices and abilities of the people we are with. We are happy to accommodate friends or family who would like to come on holiday but do not want to take part in the activities.

How it works
You make your arrangements to fly to Malaga, where we meet you.

We can support you throughout your holiday, but if you have personal care needs, you will need to bring someone to support you with these.

Once we pick you up from the airport, we provide all transport; full board at the hotel and day time activities as described; escort you during the evenings. At the end of the holiday we take you back to the airport and make sure you catch your flight home.

Where we stay
For our holidays use a Hotel in Lanjarón. All the rooms have a bath and toilet.

What is included in the cost
Transport in Spain, the activities, accommodation and meals.

What is not included 
Flights and personal care, personal spending money, medical insurance.

Holidays for people with a learning disability brochure 2013

If you or someone you support would like to join us on an adventure activity holiday in Spain, get in touch to find out more.  If you have a group of friends who would like a holiday together, do talk to us about how we can give you a great adventure holiday designed just for you.

Hotel based, we travel out daily to a new area for our adventures. This weeks holiday is “full board” and includes six days of guided Snowshoeing (though you can of course take a day off!). Our guides are fully qualified International Mountain Leaders so you can be sure that you are in safe hands whilst out.

Mountain House Holidays can provide you with snowshoes and poles free of charge so your daily equipment need only consist of your normal winter walking kit. We will supply all people with a full kit list.

A sample itinerary for this holiday:

Day 1 – meet at Malaga airport, drive to Lanjaron.  There should be time to explore this historic spa town and it’s castle.

Day 2 – drive to Capileira, have an introduction to snowshoeing in the forest above the village, walking a circuit to 2200m.

Day 3 – circular route in forest and mountains above Puente Palo in the Sopotujar area.

Day 4 – excursion to nordic ski resort of Puerto de la Ragua, ascending through forest to the Sierra Nevada ridge with possible ascent of peaks up to 2,700m depending on conditions.

Day 5 – driving above Capileira we ascend to Hoya de Portillo and through the forest to a viewpoint overlooking the Trevelez valley.  We may even catch a glimpse of Africa.

Day 6 – snowshoeing in upper Rio Lanjaron with varied terrain including open slopes, tracks and forest.

Day 7 – walk the western flank of Caballo, mainland Spain’s most westerly 3000m peak – a grand day out!

Day 7 – return to Malaga airport

A week of guided walking offering varied walking including the ridges north and south of Lake Bohinj.  This itinerary is hotel based, with varied walks including some which are a little challenging.  It offers a real opportunity to enjoy the high mountain scenery, without too much commitment, yet appreciate the Slovenian people, mountains and culture.

Day 1 Pick up from Lubljana airport and drive the scenic route along Lake Bohinj to Pension Starre

Day 2 Triglav Lakes adventure; described as one of the best trips from the Bohinj valley

Day 3 A cable car journey takes the strain, and enables us to walk the ridge south of Lake Bohinj including an ascent of Crna Prst (1844)

Day 4 Walking the ridge of Presivec, with frequent views of Lake Bohinj below

Day 5 We explore the traditional alpine pastures around the plateau of Rudnica, including a visit to our favourite mountain hut of Blejska Koca, above which are stunning views of Triglav, the highest mountain in Slovenia.

Day 6 Exploring the alpine meadows north of lake Bohinj, with varied scenery, lakes and flowers.

Day 7 A cable car ascent to the ski village above Ukanc then an interesting walk towards the higher mountains in the west, with wonderful views from the summit of Vogel.

Day 8 Return to Lubljana airport.  Depart for home

A week of guided walking which is designed to make the most of the early summer flowers for which the Bohinj area of Slovenia is justly famous.  This itinerary is hotel based, with varied walks including some which are a little challenging.  It offers a real opportunity to sample the delights of the Slovenian people, mountains and culture.

Day 1 Pick up from Lubljana airport.  Arrive and settle in

Day 2 Exploring the alpine meadows north of lake Bohinj, with varied scenery, lakes and flowers and the possibility of sightings of Marmuts.

Day 3 An ascent of Crna Prst (1844), with it’s unique alpine flora.

Day 5 An easy walk through the village of Stara Fuzina, to the waterfall of Slap Mostniski and an optional boat trip across the lake.

We discovered mountains of Slovenia earlier this year, when we visited the Bohinj area, and were determined to add it to our holiday destinations.  Slovenia is a beautiful mountainous country, the people are particularly helpful and the walking is varied.  All the ingredients you could wish for in a walking holiday.  We are particularly pleased to find a great hotel, close to lake Bohinj which has pleasant rooms, good food and best of all an accommodating owner who speaks good English.  So come and join us!

We have trips during the early summer when the flowers are at their finest, and September when the trees are starting to turn.  A must for 2012.  We offer 3 options; spring explorations of alpine pastures, a week which explores some of the higher alpine meadows and ridges and a week in the highest mountains, with 4 nights in Alpine refuges.
